The density of carbon steel is slightly higher than ferritic and martensitic stainless steel, and slightly lower than austenitic stainless steel; resistivity according to carbon steel, ferrite shape, martensite and austenitic stainless steel sorting increase; the size of the linear expansion coefficient is similar, the austenitic stainless steel is the highest and the smallest carbon steel; carbon steel, ferrite and martensitic stainless steel are magnetic, austenitic stainless steel non-magnetic, but its cold processing hardening of the formation of the transformation of the martensite will produce magnetic, the use of heat treatment methods to eliminate this martensite tissue and restoration of its non-magnetism.
Compared with carbon steel, stainless steel has the following characteristics:
